Strumming Some Heartstrings

SLAM!

“MOM! Why can’t I go to Jeremy’s birthday party? June raised her voice.

“You’ve been disobeying me! Yelled June’s mom.

“But MAAAAAAAAA! June begged.

“NO!’’

“FINE!

“JUNE! Come back here at once!”

June ignored her mom and burst out from her house and ran. Her head was spinning, her legs are sprinting like a cheetah and her eyes burns like it was on fire. She end up stopping at the back alley of the neighborhood, panting like she hadn’t in years and sobbed.

BANG!

June was stunned. Three panicking robbers were running away from being chased by the police. One of the clumsy robber dropped a black, glittery roll near the trash can. Sirens were surrounding them everywhere.

As soon as the sirens faded away, June sneakily crawled near the trash can and picked up the tube. She opened it and pulled out an ancient, old, crumply map with Latin words at the back of it. The familiar looking mansion was drawn on the map. There were stories about the eerie mansion on the peak of Hayley Hills was haunted hundred years ago. June decided to show Travis the map and discover it together.

Travis was Junes’ best friend. He has curls all over his hair. He’s the one in class who’s fluent in Latin. June went to his house and ask him about the old map.

“Here lies the map where tonnes of treasure are.” Travis read brightly.

“WOW! TRAVIS LETS GO! said June impatiently.

June followed Travis to the haunted old mansion on the top of Hayley Hills. June gasped , Travis gulped. Both of them were getting goosebumps. That place was covered with dried weeds and unpleasant looking plants. The mansion looked abandon for years. Both of them were as still as death. Travis gathered all his guts and pulled June along.

“Weird. The door is opened.” Travis said.

June and Travis walked in and the door slam tightly shut. They continued walking and saw a dusty looking X was drawn on the old wooden plank.

“Treasure Baby here I come!~”said Travis cheerfully.

They started digging where the X sign were. Terrifying and frustrating , the soil goes back to the ground where it belongs. No matter how hard they tried but the soil just goes back to the original place.

All on a sudden, there was a faceless white figure floating in front of them. Travis and June screamed in horror. Their legs felt too heavy to move.

“Here lies where tonnes of treasure are”

“Thou shalt not take it”

“H-H-How can you stop me?

“By not allowing you to dig it. Unless….. You can help me.”

“What is it?” Jun asked.

“Vestri friend beside you can help me. Thou has the power to save me from this curse.”

“Thou shall find the unusual book which is hidden underneath the mansion.”

June and Travis went around the mansion to find the book. They ran up down and search every single corner of the book but they couldn’t find it. They bounced tiredly on the cushion at the library and rest. Travis realize something was unusual about triangular plank at the middle of the library. He walked carefully and open the plank.

“THE IT IS!” Travis was overjoyed.

Travis and June dust off the old book watchfully which can be torn in minutes. Travis opened the book and tried to read every single word that could help.

“Oh mediocris commodo succurro is penuriosus phasmatis sicco is moenia quod sileo in pacis. Is vadum exsisto unus quisnam can exsisto privatus ex is vomica.”

“HAHAHA! Yes… I can feel it!”

“Thank thou two for your help.”

“What is that light?”

“It’s the place where you can rest in peace.” said Travis.

“Thank vestri friend for helping me.”

“Thou shalt take the treasure in peace.”

“With no harm?” asked June.

“Yes, my dear. Bye my dear children.”

June waved. The ghost went to the light and was gone.

Travis and June ran where the X sign were and dug. Surprising the soil didn’t go back in. They pulled out the big box and open it.

There were no treasure.

There was a scroll with Latin words on it. Travis read it aloud.

“Those who were brave to open this, it’s not a treasure of gold. But a treasure of knowledge.

June and Travis went back disappointed but they discovered knowledge.

As soon as June reached home..

“ Mom. I’m sorry what I had done.”

“ It’s okay my dear.”

“Just don’t do the same mistake again okay?”
